Groovy’s New Year’s Resolutions for Your Pet
A new year always comes with new opportunities to start fresh and change old habits. That’s why we compiled a list of New Year’s resolutions for you and your pets. Join us on Facebook and share with us which ones you’ll start and which ones you recommend.
May the New Year bring you, your families, and your pets joy and happiness – and many precious moments together!
- Get moving
We all need a reminder to get off our butts and move more, including our pooches! Take your dog(s) for a walk in the neighborhood, at least for half an hour once a day. You’ll notice that Fido and you will feel refreshed and balanced after a walk. Check out the “Move your Mutt” initiative on www.petsmove.org
- Eat healthy
We are what we eat. It’s that simple. Only feed your furry babies food with the highest quality ingredients, preferably organic, to fuel their bodies with all the nutrients they need. Our Groovy Pet Shops in Kemang, Radio Dalam, BSD, and soon Bintaro are happy to recommend healthy dry and wet food options for your beloved pet. If you can’t see us in person, visit our online store.
- Watch your pet’s weight
Many pet parents “eyeball” their pet’s daily food intake and pour that into a bowl by feeling, which can easily result in overfeeding and weight gain. We recommend that you use a measuring cup for portion control and follow the feeding guidelines on the bag. BUT: older, neutered or less active pets usually have lower energy needs and require less food.
- Schedule that annual health check-up
Yearly examinations at our Groovy VetCare Clinic are a key to good preventive care. Medical conditions, such as diabetes, arthritis, or obesity are common in aging pets and much easier to manage when detected early. We also encourage you to ask for advice, update your pet’s food, or get an expert opinion on any behavioral issues, when you see us.
- Brush daily
Daily tooth brushing is the best way to keep bad breath, tartar and plaque at bay — just be sure to use a toothpaste for dogs and cats. Can’t brush daily? Water additives, dental diets, and treats designed to reduce tartar can also be a helpful in keeping teeth clean and mouths fresh. Our VetCare Clinic also provides dental services for sparkly teeth.
- Prevent before you treat
Make sure your pet’s vaccinations are up-to-date and that you give heartworm and flea / tick medication regularly. Preventative medicine is your pet’s best line of defense and much cheaper for you in the long run.
- Spay & neuter your pet
In addition to unwanted pets population control, spaying and neutering your dog and cat also brings a lot of health benefits for the animal. Among them: a decrease in testicular cancer, prostate problems, urine marking and inter-dog (or inter-cat) aggression for males, and a decrease in mammary cancer, uterine infection, uterine cancer, and ovarian cancer for females.
- Make time for playtime
Have fun with your furry friend! Cats, for example, love the thrill of chasing a laser toy. And every dog loves to run after a ball. If you want to keep your pet’s brain extra active, try a feeding puzzle or other stimulating toys. You’ll find a great selection at our Groovy Pet Shops in Kemang, Radio Dalam, BSD or soon Bintaro.
- Groom daily
Brushing your pet removes excess fur from the coat and reduces the amount you find on your clothes and furniture. It also helps distribute oils from the skin to the fur, keeping the coat shiny and healthy. Did you know that daily grooming is a bonding activity that demonstrates to your pet how much you love them? When your pet’s fur smells or needs a haircut, Groovy also provides grooming services at the Pet Shops in Kemang, Radio Dalam, BSD, and soon Bintaro.
- Have fun and make new friends
Go out and explore the world with your furry friend. We are currently planning new PAWrenting sessions for 2014. Check our website for dates and we look forward to seeing you soon!
